RHYOLITE is a new record by Chris Kallmyer, Julia Holter, and Lucky Dragons that explores the desert regions outside Los Angeles through sound, interviews, and stories.
When Chris Kallmyer went to document an installation he built in a ghost town looking across the Amargosa Desert to California, he became curious about how other artists might understand landscape through sound, memory and patterns. Over the last twelve months he worked with Lucky Dragons and Julia Holter to create RHYOLITE, an LP that explores this idea and suggests different ways of seeing and hearing the northern reaches of the Mojave Desert.
This limited release features 12″ vinyl with new music by Chris Kallmyer, Julia Holter, and Lucky Dragons. The record comes with a digital download and a large folded insert that includes interviews and images by the artists. The record was designed by Becca Lofchie. Released by Populist Records in April, 2016.
