10/16-10/27: Killjoy's Kastle
Otherwild is proud to participate in Killjoy's Kastle's gift shop this year!
Killjoy’s Kastle is a performance and immersive visual art installation by artists Allyson Mitchell and Deirdre Logue. Finding its roots in queer feminist critique and “traditional” haunted houses, Killjoy’s Kastle is comprised of sculptural objects constructed and activated by local and international artists who take on the roles of polyamorous vampiric sex positive grannies, “lesbian” zombie folk singers, riot ghouls and demented women’s studies professors—to name just a few of the many monsters that haunt this art project.
Killjoy’s Kastle is inspired by current anxieties over changing social and personal landscapes, especially for LGTBQIA communities. This queer fun house activates a litany of current and historical stereotypes using an intersectional mirror to reflect and shatter the ways in which women, trans and gender non-conforming individuals are made into monsters by mainstream society, acting as an archive and think tank to playfully mourn and exorcise feminist histories, demons and ghosts.
Killjoy's Kastle is an inclusive and trans-affirming project. We embrace the identities and histories of all who enter our haunted home.
Killjoy’s Kastle is free and open to the public. Arrive early to ensure entrance. Address is 1400 N American St, Philadelphia PA 19122.
